Coastin'

Coastin' by Zion I (feat K. Flay)

So lately I've been listening to songs that remind me of bein' on a boat. Probably cuz I've been missing summer and wakeboarding and all that good sheesh. My good friend Tori played this for me in Lake Powell, on our senior trip. (Which by the way was the most chill trip of my liiiiife!! It was so freaking fun.) I usually hate rap, but there are few songs that I really dig. Especially Zion I songs. They are coooool. Ya, whenever I listen to this song it makes me way happy, cuz I just think of kickin' it in Lake Powell with my good buddies, riding in my boat with the wind in our hair and faces. Such bliss.

And yes, I know every word to this song.

Old Man

Old Man by Neil Young

Okay, so this is actually Neil Young. The last video was Jimmy Falon impersonating him. (And if you've ever seen Neil Young perform, you know he did a freaking good job!)

I first heard this song on my favorite wakeboarding video, Relentless (sorry about the poor quality), during Shawn Watson's section. And I've been in love with Neil Young's music since. Most of all, I LOVE his harmonica playing. I can kind of play Heart of Gold on mine. He has so many good songs. Old Man is for sure my favorite though. It's impossible for me to overplay it.

Orion & Dog

Orion & Dog by Sea Wolf

The main reason I'm putting this song on today is because I just got a TELESCOPE for Christmas! I took an Astronomy class this semester, and seriously fell in love with it! So, I've been mentioning here and there about how it would be so cool to own a telescope. I figured I wouldn't get one for another few years because they are pretty pricey. However, I have the best parents in the entire world!!! I love them.

I love this song because in Astronomy we learned all about the stars and constellations of, and around, Orion. So late at night when I'm driving home from various places, I'll play this song and look at Orion and think about how much "I LOVE SPACE!!" (That's for you Mal.) And of course how much I looooove Sea Wolf. I'm so surprised I haven't gotten in an accident yet, seeing as I tend to look at the sky more than the road when I'm driving... :)

Merry CHRISTmas!!!!!!!

I'm Bound to Pack It Up

I'm Bound to Pack It Up by The White Stripes

I LOVE JACK WHITE. He is such a freak, but it makes me love him more!! His guitar playing is so unique and awesome. He currently has three freaking supreme bands: The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather. He's written a billion cool songs. I will definitely be posting more of his work in the future. My friend Ian is obsessed with him (obsessed.) and seeing as he listened to his music ALL the time, I couldn't help but join in that obsession.

The Cold, the Dark & the Silence

The Cold, the Dark & the Silence by Sea Wolf

These guys are for sure one of my favorite bands! The perfect blend of indie, folk, and all good things. And his voice is so great. Thank you Lindsay Waffle for telling me about them! (I think my love for her multiplied by 20 because of that.) The first song I heard by them was "You're a Wolf." If you haven't heard that song, listen to it. Changed my life :) I saw these guys a few months ago with my Maren and her husband Grant. Such a fun time! And after the show, we met them, and they were so funny and nice and cooool. So cool. Here are a few pictures!

Waiting for Seeeaaaa Wolffff.

Maren and me with lead singer Alex Church

Awesome cello player, and bass guitarist.
"I'm sorry I'm so sweaty. I'm steaming like a McDonalds apple pie."

That's what he said to me; it made me laugh way hard!

I love seeing bands that aren't way popular yet; they get so excited that people actually like them and even more so that we want to take pictures with them. The cello player even pulled out her camera to get some pics with US. It's nice, as fans, to get appreciated. It doesn't happen often. They have two stellar albums that y'all should own. Do it.

Badfish/Boss DJ

Badfish/Boss DJ by Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson is da best; so is this song. It's one of my favorites that he sings, although it is a Sublime cover, but I like Jack's version better. Thanks for showing me such a good song M.

The Ocean

The Ocean by Led Zeppelin

The first time I heard this song, I was in my friend Ryan's basement. However, Bonham and Page weren't the ones creating the musical goodness. I have so many memories of my friends Ian and Ryan jammin' in that basement, and this was a song they played all the time and perfected EPICLY. Although they may disagree, they are SUCH good musicians. I guarantee I wouldn't love this song as much as I do if I hadn't experienced the brilliance [live] few feet from an amp, kickin' it with my buds. It's probably my favorite Zeppelin song. Prime, solid rock and roll. If you're not already a hard core Led Zeppelin fan, I strongly encourage you to pursue that path. SOME other favorite songs include: "Going to California," "Ramble On," and "Black Dog." I can't listen to some Led and not think of traipsing about vast regions with my fellow mountain savages. "Sitting 'round, singing songs 'til the night turns into day."

--Also, this song is the main ringtone on my phone, and has been for a looooong time. Shyjzah!

Paint the Silence

Welcome. This blog is for all you music lovers out there, or those who want to love music more. Even those who hate music (I doubt those people even EXIST)--I will convert you. "Nowadays all the songs on the radio, they all drive me crazy." I agree with my good friends Sublime, which is one reason why I have decided to create a "song of the day" blog. Sharing music with others makes me happy, and since I'm not the greatest at expressing myself with words, I think music is the perfect alternative to get my feelings across. A wide variety of genres is guaranteed 'round here. Lots of old annnnd new music. I love it all. Tell me what you think about this blog of chaos!!!!!!! Please. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE BEAUTIFUL COMPOSITIONS THAT WILL BE POSTED.

Today's post (and the first) will be:

I thought it would be appropriate seeing as it is the title of my blog, and a greeeat song. I first heard it on The OC: Mix 1 (All the OC mixes are SO GOOD, if you haven't already experienced the exquisitness.) I have Maren Christensen to thank for my obsession with them, and also half of my music collection. (Sorry Mar, you'll probably be mentioned a lot from here on out.) Enjoy the song! I hope you'll use this blog to Paint your Silence.

p.s. The picture at the top of the blog was taken by MYSELF during the sunrise on the beautiful island of Catalina!!!!!
